According to census numbers, 17.2% of the people who live in Wichita are Hispanic. There are more than 800 Hispanic-owned businesses in the Wichita area that bring in annually more than $320 million.
And according to the Stanford Graduate School of Business, the 34% increase in Latino business owners outpaces any other minority group.
Wichita has a new resource to assist existing Latino small-business owners and those who want to turn their business ideas into reality.
It’s called Empower Evergreen. It’s about six weeks old and Ariel Rodriguez is its executive director. He’s setting up shop in the former Evergreen branch library that is being renovated.
Rodriguez, a Wichita native, is Bill Roy’s guest in Episode 203 of the podcast. He gives us a rundown of how the organization was founded and the services available.
The WBJ will be writing much more about Empower Evergreen as it grows and gets established in Wichita. My thanks to Ariel for helping us learn more about this important community resource.
